A minor revision has been developed in 2020-2021 to ensure the full consistency of the EWIS model with the part 42 topology/geometry architecture.

This third edition revision has been published in 2022 as
ISO 10303-242:2022 in parallel of the STEP Module and Resource Library (SMRL) v9

Introduction

Please find the link to the AP242 Ee2 white paper here (Version 1.0, 2014-03-30).

AP242 Ed2 is the extension of AP242 Ed1 to the electrical design domain, completed with specific enhancements in the following domains: PDM, 3D geometry, 3D PMI, composite and mechanical design.

The AP242 ed2 project aims at defining and using a single integrated ISO standard covering product information interoperability capabilities for: Product Data Management, 3D model based design with PMI (e.g, Geometric Dimensions and Tolerances), Mechanical, Composite, and Electrical harness design.

This standard will be consistent with the ISO 10303 STEP modular Application Protocols:
  • AP209 “Multi-Disciplinary Analysis and design”,
  • AP210 “Electronic assembly, interconnect, and packaging design”,
  • AP233 “Systems Engineering”,
  • AP238 “Application interpreted model for computer numeric controllers",
  • AP 239 “Product Life-Cycle Support”.
Together they will be the foundation for specifications, engineering simulation and 3D model based design information interoperability of aerospace, automotive and other transportation industries. This should extend the use of STEP by the main manufacturing industries and the support by PLM software suppliers and integrators.

Overall planning

The project started on September 2014 and the standard will be published on late 2019. See next figure.

The project includes the setting up of pilots to validate new functionalities.
It takes into account close coordination with other related standardization projects (e.g, LOTAR, OASIS PLCS / STEP AP239 ed3, STEP AP210, VDA VEC, future PDM IF, CAx IF, ISO 14739 PRC, 14306 JT ed2).

New Architecture

The AP242 Edition 2 project introduct a new Architecture in order to develop, describe, and implement an Application Protocole. This new architecture add a new high level layer of description of the standard and add a new implementation method based on mordern technologies.
